You can determine if your laptop is compatible with Oyster by answering two simple questions:

  1. Is the base of your laptop (not including the screen) less than 1 3/4" (4.45 cm) thick? If yes, then your laptop will slide comfortably into the Oyster dock.
  2. Does your laptop screen open approximately 150°? If yes, then you will have no problem viewing the screen. Some hinge designs do not allow the screen to open past approximately 110°, which is insufficient to work properly with Oyster. The table below identifies the compatibility status of various laptop brands on the Microsoft Standards list.

If you answered "yes" to both questions, your laptop is compatible with Oyster.

Note:
  • If your laptop's CD/DVD drives are positioned in the front of the computer, they will not be accessible when the laptop is sitting in the Oyster.
  • If your laptop screen does not open far enough, adjustable legs can be screwed into the two threaded holes under the Oyster (never force your screen open). The adjustable legs will increase the degree of the angle needed to view your laptop screen. However, this correction may not be sufficient for all laptops.

Instructions: You will need a package of "rubber bumpers" and 2 hex bolts (also known as machine bolts) 1 ½ inches in length, diameter size #8, thread size 32. Place the rubber bumper over the head of the hex nut and screw into the threaded hole. The rubber bumpers rest on your desktop, providing the additional angle needed. These items are easily found in any hardware supply outlet.
